The new T-Mobile Nokia Astound cell phone a.k.a C7. It has the best touchscreen and 8 megapixel camera I saw on a nokia, sits well in the hand, looks nice and the camera isn’t bad either, the 8 megapixel camera with 720p recording, comes with angry birds, ovi store, free GPS, full browser with flash-lite,capacitive display, and is set up for multiple customizable screens like an android phone. It also has a VGA front facing camera for video calls.

The Nokia Astound C7 cell phone display is 2nd gen Amoled, similar to superamoled by Samsung, very good and looking good in direct sunlight. Whether Symbian is outdated or not, it’s still a smart phone OS being sold at dumb phone prices on Nokia hardware. I always loved Nokia phones, great battery life, fantastic music players and good cameras for a budget price.

Nokia X7 Smartphone Won’t Come To AT&T, which causes additional setbacks for it as it looks to make its mark in the U.S. market. Nokia X7 Smartphone Price in USA and Release Date is still uncertain. We will focus to report soon.

The Espoo, a company based in Finland will debut the X7, which works on Nokia’s Symbian operating system in its other markets. It may still be sold in the U.S. without carrier subsidies, just like some of the other Nokia phones.

Some of the announcements seem to say Nokia didn’t think the phone would get sufficient marketing and subsidization from AT&T, but some suggest Nokia just wanted to cancel the X7 handset phone.

Nokia said that it was well known that it was trying to get back on top in the U.S. market and that it was actively talking with their partners to form the strategy to do so. Therefore, the next couple of months may end up being vital for Nokia.

A financial statement is due to come out that will show how Nokia’s high end phones did during the holiday timeframe and their incoming chief executive Stephen Elop is expected to talk about their new smart phone strategy.

Nokia is still tops in the amount of phones sold in the U.S., but its smart phones cling to an ever smaller part of the U.S. market, which is dominated by Apple’s iPhone, Research in Motion’s BlackBerry units and the phones that use Google’s Android system from Samsung, HTC, Motorola, LG and other companies.

Nokia’s existing flagship phone, the N8, is at the moment not sold by any major U.S. mobile carrier and is sold for $470 if its bought right from Nokia, and that makes it cost more than the ones subsidized by its competitors.

Nokia’s smart phone operating system, Symbian, has also not found its place amongst developers. Since whether or not a smart phone succeeds depends on whether or not its supported by the developers with compelling apps, the more time Nokia stays isolated from the U.S. developer community, the more difficult it will be to be on part with its competitor operating systems that are already popular. They are expected to put out a new smart phone platform called MeeGo in a few months.

Cancelling the Nokia X7 from AT&T’s smart phone list isn’t the only thing that shows Nokia is failing to keep the interest of its customer base. This week it also said that it was ending its Unlimited Music subscription service in the majority of its markets since there wasn’t much of an interest by its customers for the service.

Nokia Symbian^3-powered E7 TouchScreen Phone With QWERTY Slider and 8MP camera. Nokia launched a new slider smartphone at the Nokia World 2010 conference in London. The Symbian^3-powered E7 is slightly bigger than the N8 and sports a four-inch, non-capacitive touchscreen running at 640×350 pixel resolution, an eight-megapixel camera with face recognition and dual LED flash on the back, and a secondary VGA camera for video calling.

Fashion-conscious types will love the E7’s aluminum-clad enclosure and its sleek, rounded design. The device weighs in at 176 grams and is 13.6 millimeter thin, which is 4.3 millimeter thicker and a gram lighter than iPhone 4. You’ll be probably sold on the display that utilizes AMOLED technology for vivid colors and low power consumption, in addition to Nokia’s own display technology called ClearBlack Display that claims to further improve outdoor visibility. The rear camera with dual-flash takes eight-megapixel images and records 720p 16:9 video at 25 frames per second.

Billed as the ultimate smartphone for business customers, the E7 features a QWERTY keyboard that slides out horizontally while tilting the display a little bit for prolonged typing in landscape mode. Solidifying its business focus, the E7 comes preloaded with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync for direct access to corporate email, and apps like Vlingo, IBM Lotus Notes Traveler, Adobe PDF reader, F-SecureAnti-theft, World Traveler, and QuickOffice that lets you edit PowerPoint presentations
on the go.

Also worth mentioning are built-in premium guides from Lonely Planet and Via Micheling for travelling tips, free worldwide satellite car and walk navigation from Ovi Maps, three customizable home screens, and live social updates from Facebook, Twitter, RenRen, and a bunch of others.

Connectivity-wise, the E7 will have you covered with 802.11 b/g/n wireless networking, Bluetooth 3.0 with support for stereo headsets, GPS positioning, and quad-band GSM/EDGE/WCDMA radios that supports HSDPA Cat9 and HSUPA Cat5 for up to 10.2Mbps downlink and 2Mbps uplink, respectively.

Fans of multimedia will appreciate support for Dolby Digital Plus surround sound via an HDMI video output, the ability to connect to a USB stick, Flash 10 video support, buil-in FM radio and music player, the included 16GB microSD memory card, and a micro-USB port for file transfer and charging. The 1200mAh BL-4D battery is rated at nine/five hours of GSM/WCDMA talk time and eighteen/twenty days of GSM/WCDMA standby.

The phone will launch in the fourth quarter of this year in Europe. Available in dark grey, silver white, green, blue, and orange, it’ll retail for €495 (about $650) for a contract-free version. US availability and price weren’t announced at press time. Given its business focus, however, we have no doubt in our mind that Nokia will bring the E7 to the biggest smartphone market in the world.

The new Nokia N9 cell phone photos looks like the N8 QWERTY variant, this is the rumored N9 Nokia’s next smartphone with 8 megapixel camera, American 3G. The screen resolution thats not final product though, that keyboard just is not Nokia quality. The N9 is still running Symbian S60 Symbian is a great OS. But it does have its shortcomings. The Nokia N9 has an 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, front-facing camera with LED flash, sliding QWERTY keypad, 640X360 nHD display, and supports 850 / 1900 3G bands. Nokia said: “There will also be a senior version of the N8, with a QWERTY keypad and form factor resembling that of the Nokia N97. However, the 12-megapixel camera will have to be sacrificed there, too. It may also turn out to be the first Symbian^4 product, which is still an open question”

While the authenticity of this video remains under question, take it with a pinch of salt. The user who has uploaded the video at YouKu.com has tagged it as MeeGo – so that might as well be Nokia’s first MeeGo tablet. Anyway, here is the video to see for yourself.

Nokia N97 and Nokia N900, both are superb gadgets and have their own class and exciting deals with some really exciting gifts. ONSLUNDA, Sweden – With the announcement of the upcoming Nokia N900, speculations and opinions are running wild on whether this device will replace the Nokia N97 model just a few months after it was released. The N900 will be showcased at the Nokia World, starting tomorrow, but below is an overview of the similarities and differences between the models known so far.

Starting off with the hardware, the N900 clearly triumphs. It has an OMAP (generation 3) 3430 processor running at 600MHz compared to the ARM11 processor (OMAP generation 2) running at 434MHz found in the N97. The 3430 is without doubt faster. The N900 also features graphics acceleration which the N97 lacks. This should be noticeable when running games or other graphic-intense applications. The N900 also features a higher screen resolution (800×480 compared to 640×360) although the actual screen size is the same (3.5″). The N97 has higher battery capacity on paper, although real use capacity can’t be determined by simply looking at the specifications.

The most obvious hardware difference though is that the N900 included 256MB of RAM compared to 128MB on the N97. The N900 also supports up to 768MB of virtual memory and thus has 1GB application memory available. The lack of RAM on the N97 is widely seen as the biggest flaw of the device. Since the N97 (and the N900) contains 32GB of internal flash memory, many users anticipate virtual memory support to be included in a future firmware update for the N97. The amount of internal memory available to applications is in many situations more important than processor speed.

Apart from what’s mentioned already, the hardware specifications are more or less the same on both devices.

N97 with and without keyboard outN900 calling screenLooking at the software, the N97 runs on the Symbian S60 v5 as its operating system, while the N900 will use the Linux-based Maemo 5. S60 v5 has received some criticism for being just a port from v3 with added touch support and not really suited as a modern touch operating system. Overall though, user feedback has been mixed, more on that in a second.

Maemo 5 is not yet available for testing, but looks on paper like a more modern operating system better suited to the kind of mixed multimedia and internet device both N900 and N97 represent. Judging from currently available information, Maemo 5 will feature rich multitasking possibilities and a modern user interface with 3D effects, menu transitions, etc.. Being Linux-based, in theory it also offers endless configuration possibilities and a wide range of third-party software support.

Overall, it’s always hard to compare a released model to another device that is hyped but not released. The N97 hasn’t fared too well in reviews and is widely criticized by its users on the internet, especially after the N900 was announced. Unhappy users being the loudest in the debate is not uncommon though, this applies to virtually every mobile phone out on the market. It’s also obvious that Nokia hasn’t been able to attract new users with the N97, the happy users are with few exceptions people who have used the N95 or other S60 v3 devices before. The N97 doesn’t really compete with Google Android or the iPhone since the inheritage from the S60 v3 is so obvious. It’s still a smartphone with a smartphone OS for savvy technical users who want total freedom with their phones. Android and iPhone offers something else.

If one looks deeper and analyzes the more balanced opinions from users who constantly uses the N97 in everyday life, the impression is mixed. Two months pass quickly, and many users tend to forget the big advancement that the N97 after all provides compared to previous Nokia models. The home-screen support for widgets such as Facebook, e-mail and news feeds, offers possibilities not seen before and has changed the way many people use their phones. On the other hand, there’s no doubt that the N97 was released with serious flaws. Buggy software, insufficient amount of RAM, a camera that’s not really an improvement over the N95 released two years earlier and hardware struggles both with the GPS and the USB connector. And since the N900 looks so good on paper, one can certainly understand that many users feel cheated and would have waited for the N900 if they would had known in advance what was coming.

Still, there is no guarantee that the N900 will be a success. It is, after all, built in the internet tablet tradition, a segment that has never really reached the mass appeal the N900 aims for. So will Nokia be able to mix this tradition with first time phone functionality and the first release of a new OS? Only time will tell, but looking at history, there are reasons for doubt. It will also be interesting to see how open ended Nokia will allow the Linux architecture to be upon release. A completely open architecture with root access and command line support is of course what most power users hope for, but is that really possible to combine with the easy operation and stability that regular phone users will expect and require? And of course, there is a reason that Linux hasn’t really been able to make a huge impact on the PC market so far, competing with Apple and Microsoft. Maybe this is the release that will change all that, but it’s not unlikely that the N900 will at least partly suffer the same faith as previous Nokia internet tablets and Linux: beloved by power users but not really appealing to regular users.

Regardless, the N900 will definitely be an exciting model to follow, starting at the upcoming Nokia World.

Microsoft Debuts Communications Hub for Nokia Phones. Microsoft Communicator Mobile for Nokia lets businessfolk quickly see which of their contacts are available and choose the best way to reach them.

Back in August of last year, Microsoft and Nokia inked an alliance which has the Redmond software giant actually working on software that runs on Nokia’s Symbian mobile operating system…particularly to tie Symbian devices aimed at the enterprise market more tightly with Microsoft’s enterprise-oriented communications systems like Exchange and Outlook. Now that deal is seeing its first fruits: Microsoft has released Microsoft Communicator Mobile for Nokia, which (initially) enables users of Nokia’s E72 and E52 handsets to have to single contacts dashboard which not only shows contacts’ availability for instant messaging, email, or live calls, but lets users initiate the most appropriate form of communication right from the contact card.

“Our alliance with Nokia aims to bring the Microsoft Office productivity experience to the millions of people using Nokia smartphones around the world,” said general manager for Microsoft’s office communications platform and solutions group Kirt Debique, in a statement. “With the arrival of Communicator Mobile for Nokia today, we have a great start to fulfilling our joint vision.”

The idea behind Microsoft Communicator Mobile for Nokia is to improve Nokia devices’ access to email, contacts, and other personal information managed within organizations by Microsoft Exchange and ActiveSync. Using the Application, users can see their colleagues’ availability for everything from instant messaging to text to email to (gasp!) an actual phone call. Users can also update their own presence, join and start IM sessions, and launch calls directly from a contact card.

The English version of Microsoft Communicator Mobile for Nokia is available now from Nokia’s Ovi Store. The companies eventually plan to deliver Microsoft Communicator Mobile for Nokia as a pre-installed application on selected Nokia smartphones, as well as extend support to additional devices like the Nokia E5.
